Mommy Milestones

The last entry was about Skittle's milestones but this one is about mine.
Milestone ONE:
I finally had the courage to put Skittle in the church nursery on Saturday night! I had mega anxiety during the service (so much so that I thought I might need medication to mellow out!) and all I could think about was if she was OK in there. Before becoming a mother I thought I'd be able to leave her with a babysitter right away and certainly be able to put her in the nursery for an hour and a half church service. HAAAA! NO. Of course, she did GREAT, didn't cry at all and the nursery workers were very interested in her cloth diapers. :) That part made me happy. I'm sure next week will be easier and it will continue to get easier to leave her but man, I didn't think it would be this tough!

When DH and I walked into the service (children are not allowed in the service-so we had been hanging out in the cry room until this past weekend) it was refreshing to be with fellow believers again. I was overwhelmed and didn't expect to feel that way. It had been 6 months since we had been in the church sanctuary. (The cry room is dark and except for usually two other families with young babies-it's kind of lonely-it was almost like watching church on TV or something.) Being back in fellowship was absolutely wonderful and something we needed to do.

Milestone TWO:
I'm now in the process of weaning from pumping. Just getting to the point where I want to wean is a milestone but right now all I want to say on the subject is that IT BLOWS BIG CHUNKS. I'm blasted miserable and I've only just started...BLAH. I'm sure I'll write another blog entry on it soon...
Just for Fun: Here are some pictures of Skittle trying to roll while I'm changing her

A Few Firsts

5 Months Old!

First time in her new highchair
First time eating baby oatmeal!

"Hey Mom, I'm not so sure about this..."
First time sitting unassisted!
And then she fell over :)
Ok, so these aren't "firsts" but they are cute!
Skittle about to rip out Indy's eye
Ahh, finally asleep!

Got Milk?

I have now been pumping exclusively since October. Since then, my milk supply has increased um, like 10 fold. I am VERY VERY thankful for that-even though pumping has been put on my top ten list of things I never want to do again. I have been able to freeze 20-25 oz of milk a day. That is over and above the milk I'm providing for Skittle. Just before Christmas, I had so much milk that it was literally falling out our kitchen freezer and so we went and bought a 7 cubic foot chest freezer-just for breast milk. That is now almost completely FULL. I think I have around 1800 oz of breast milk in that freezer. I've decided that I'm going to stop pumping when Skittle turns 6 months old. I'm pretty sure she'll have enough milk to last until we move this summer.

That my friends is a lot of milk!
